So my brother had watched this movie TWICE before I got a chance to watch it once with him. He has now seen it three times total. If that's not a sign of at least enjoyment, then I dunno what is.

So I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The Action was very well-done, the comedy was hit-or-miss, and the fan service goes crazy at times. You can tell that everyone in the production of this film was having fun with it.

Unfortunately, the film is also quite inconsistent. As stated before, the comedy is hit-or-miss. Some moments got a legitimate rise outta me. Other moments had me either groaning or rolling my eyes. It wasn't firing on all cylinders. It's a bunch of little things that add up to take away some points off of my enjoyment of the film.

More than that though, watching this film really left me seeing a LOT of missed potential. There are moments where I can see the potential for either further character development or for a funny gaffe, but it just doesn't quite stick the landing in some way. An example that my brother said to me was that the film could have very easily had a more thematic subplot. The jealousy between Ryu and Ken has both subtext and actual text; but something that was heavily implied but not explicitly stated was that perhaps Ryu was the result of hard work and training while Ken was the result of raw talent. It would justify and explain why the tension between the two blooms the way it does, but that specific detail is only vaguely hinted at with a single line, "I was envious of your light".

The hardest part to conclude about the film is whether the parts I do or don't enjoy matter as much or as little as I think they do. Like, I appreciate the year of Native Language and the inclusion of Dan; but I wasn't a fan of Blanka's clarity or Chun Li's... Everything. Whether those are enough to change my opinions on the film, it's still kinda up-in-the-air.

Overall though, I cannot deny the joy I had watching this film. I can't tell whether to give it a sincere or ironic score, so until further notice it's getting a ±8/10.
