So yesterday (May 15, 2026), Glitch Productions released another Animated Indie Pilot. After the acclaimed works of The Amazing Digital Circus, The Gaslight District, and Knights of Guinevere, we have the new video-game inspired pilot: Gameoverse
Created by RubberRoss and featuring voice acting by Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson and JSchlatt, it's the story of a universe in which each world serves the function of a video game. There are "Good Guys", there are "Bad Guys", and the good guy defeats the bad guy to save the day. However, that means the game is over; and when the game ends, so does the world. Everything falls apart at the seams and gets absorbed by the villainous syndicate, Syntax. Our heroes Kit and Kaboodle go from world to world trying to stop the heroes from accidentally ending their worlds.
First and foremost, the animation is immaculate. Everything is shockingly smooth and has a lively bounce to it. Characters are all beautifully designed, and I love the unique linework of the whole thing. If nothing else, this pilot LOOKS amazing.
Secondly is the voice-acting work. Everybody does a really solid job in their roles. Arin Hanson stands out for his exceptional voice range in this one. Egoraptor voiced four separate characters in this short (Gobbles, Flappers, Crabbington, and Earl the Urchin), and each one feels differently performed than the rest. In the past I've criticized him for being one of those voice-actors who just uses their normal speaking-voice for their VA roles, but this episode really illustrates the range he can do when he puts his mind to it. Alternatively, JSchlatt fell into the same pitfall as Arin did in earlier roles. I think JSchlatt is very funny in his performance as Kaboodle, he was wildly entertaining the entire time; but that was mainly because he was using his normal voice and it contrasted against Kaboodle's minuscule design. People have noted that his mic sounds rougher than everybody else's, and while I personally looked past it, I understand that it may be distracting. Asides from those two whom I felt the need to point-out, everybody else's work was also excellently done. They all knocked it out of the park for both the comedic sections and the slower moments.
All the characters stand out well, as the pilot shows off 3-4 main leads in Kit (a girl who was the protagonist of her own story before accidentally destroying her own world), Kaboodle (her backpack, companion, and seemingly only friend), Gobbles (a "Learn-o'-saurus" who had his world destroyed in the Announcement Trailer), and Flappers (A new protagonist who wants to save his village from the evil "Snappers the Sea Scourge"). Alongside them we get the evil Syntax as our main antagonists, with the paper creature "Fold" and his associate "Miss Information" as a sort of Jessie-and-James style Evil Team except more successful. Of the cast, most of them are new except for specifically Gobbles and Flappers. These two are carry-overs from the ORIGINAL "Gameovers" from 2009. It's why the two share similar design philosophies and are both voiced by Egoraptor. It also unfortunately explains why Flappers has an intentionally grating voice that has gotten on some viewers' nerves.
I personally found the storytelling to be pretty decent. For a pilot it does what it needs to do: Get the audience acquainted with the characters and the world we're going to inhabit, and I think it does a good enough job at it. I was worried that more of the jokes would have been misses or have been annoying to sit through, but all of them were pretty solid all things considered. I've read some people upset at how the episode rushes into-and-out-of emotional scenes featuring Kit, as well as character growth for Gobbles; but for a quick pilot I didn't really mind. It's the kind of thing that makes me think this show MIGHT be more Episodic than it will be Serialized, and might mean that the Pilot won't be upgraded to an "Episode 1" like other Glitch Shows did.
Overall, I had a wonderful time watching this. Really builds anticipation for wherever the team goes next. I'm hoping for the best. 9/10.
