This was a fantastic film. I knew a lot about what it had to offer going in, but watching it all on its own made me realize just how well put-together the whole thing was. This feels like the quintessential Superman movie, which is strange to say considering the plot is about him dying. Even still, this film just perfectly encapsulates what makes Superman the hero that he is. He's not some jackass who only helps people because Lois says so. He's not a Jesus stand-in. He's... Superman. An alien sent to earth and raised to do the right thing and help people.

Not only does Superman get to shine here, but so does Lex Luthor. Through his interactions with Clark Kent we can see how he interacts with everybody besides Superman. We can see his aspirations and beliefs, but we can also see his hypocrisies and shallow values. Lex perfectly foils Superman here. He has all the potential that Superman has to do good. He is a home-grown earthling who loves humanity and all the flaws within. But he is also poisoned by Pride, Envy, and Greed. As Clark says, the two could have done so much good together. But for Lex, that was impossible.

This film had very few flaws that hold it back, but I feel uncomfortable giving it top marks because I feel I simply watched it too late. If I could have watched this as a child it could have been life-changing and earned a 10/10, but as a grown adult I just see a fantastic movie.

So overall, I have to give this film a 9/10.
